From Sanya to Italy|Art Without Borders, Childlike Innocence Without Limits: Haiya Art Education in a 500-Year-Old Cathedral, a Gentle Encounter with the World
The works of Haiya students have arrived at the second stop of the 2026 International Children's Art Tour—Italy. This time, we stepped into the Basilica of San Francesco in the city of Guastalla, in the province of Reggio Emilia, unfolding the waves, beaches, and mangroves of Sanya, along with the protection of ecology, reverence for life, and deep affection for home, onto the canvas.
When the sea breeze of Sanya crosses mountains and seasAnd brushes the dawn light of the Apennine PeninsulaWhen the touch of an Eastern youth's brushFalls upon Italy's nearly five-hundred-year-old art hallA pact of aesthetic education crossing borders, languages, and civilizationsThus gently beginsThe 2026 International Children's Art Tour Italy stop, from March 21 to March 28, 2026, officially opened in the city of Guastalla, Reggio Emilia province. With the theme ofWater · Nature · Culture, and with academic support from the Reggio Emilia Provincial Educational Development Research Center, the municipal cultural department, and the education department, the works of Haiya students set out from Lujiazui, Shanghai, once again stepped onto the international stage, and in a space where time and art intertwine, told the sincerity and poetry belonging to Chinese youth. This nearly five-hundred-year-old ancient building is a quiet and solemn landmark in the European cultural vein. The stone walls bear the textures of time, the vaulted ceilings reflect the light of art, and countless master artists have left their traces here, making the space itself a flowing history of art.The paintings of Haiya's children quietly unfolded here. The Eastern imagery of the ocean and the Western humanistic heritage embraced each other subtly. Without barriers, without need for translation, they completed a dialogue across time and space using the purest language of art.Haiya's children used their paintbrushes as boats and their creativity as sails, spreading the waves, beaches, and mangroves of Sanya, their protection of ecology, reverence for life, and deep affection for home, one by one, onto the canvas. There was no deliberate display of technique, no unified mode of expression—only observation, feeling, and narration from the heart. And this is precisely the most touching essence of art: reaching understanding through sincerity, connecting the world through childlike innocence. In the birthplace of Reggio Emilia education, this exhibition was not just a presentation of works, but a resonance of educational philosophy. Italian education believes that children are born expressors, explorers, and creators. Haiya Art Education has always adhered to the belief that art is a child's original language for understanding the world, and that education is not about shaping, but about taking root; not about instilling, but about awakening. We encourage children to express boldly and explore freely, allowing every unique perspective to exist, and respecting every tender yet sincere creation. Here, art is not just a subject, but a way to see oneself, understand others, and embrace the world. At the opening ceremony, Guastalla Mayor Paolo Dallasta, Monica Lasagni, head of the Reggio Emilia Provincial Educational Development Research Center, Veronica Pellinghelli, head of the media communication center, and Feng Yun, head of the China region of the Reggio Emilia Provincial Educational Development Research Center and founder of Yibai Education, jointly cut the ribbon for the exhibition. The applause and gazes intertwined, witnessing not only an international art event but also the profound friendship between China and Italy, with art as the bridge and education as the medium. From the sea breeze of Sanya to the warm sun of Italy, from creation in the classroom to exhibition in an international hall, Haiya has always believed that true aesthetic education allows children to stand on their local roots while embracing the world, and to understand nature, respect differences, and embrace diversity with gentle yet firm strength.May every child find themselves in creation, see the world through expression, and carry the light and warmth from Sanya to fly toward a broader horizon.

Artistic Essence of Hainan, Nurturing Growth Through Art
A few weeks ago, Italian illustrator Agnese Baruzzi came to Sanya and engaged in a cross-border artistic dialogue with teachers. We interviewed several teachers who participated, listening to their stories from those two days—the emotions tenderly seen, the inspirations instantly ignited. 'Art knows no borders' is no longer an abstract phrase, but a beautiful practice truly realized through exchange and creation.
Art knows no borders—this is something we often say. But truly feeling it came during this workshop.A few weeks ago, Italian illustrator Agnese Baruzzi came to Sanya. Her picture books 'The Great Nature Hide-and-Seek' and 'The Creative Game Gift Box' had already crossed the ocean and appeared in the hands of many Chinese children. This time, we were fortunate to invite her in person, bringing pop-up books, hole-punch books, and shadow paper art, spending two days with a room full of educators from different fields. Some used 'volcano' to express anger, some hid fear inside the 'holes,' and some discovered for the first time that emotions could become a book or a shadow play. Languages differed, but the sound of scissors cutting through paper and the moment a pop-up structure sprang up seemed to allow everyone to understand the emotional expression art brought to one another. So we decided to chat with a few teachers afterward, listening to their stories from those two days—about the emotions that were seen, and the moments that were ignited.
